Meet Dr. Zeki
Dina Zeki, MD
Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician
“I have an immense passion for teaching, in general, but I’m especially excited about teaching my patients about their health. I believe the healthiest patient is the most informed patient and I feel strongly about equipping my patients with the knowledge they need to most effectively manage their health.”
Dr. Zeki’s background is anything but typical and a true testament to her resolve. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, she grew up mostly in Dearborn, Michigan. It was while visiting family in Iraq in 1990 as a ninth grader that the first Gulf War began. Forced to remain in Iraq, Dr. Zeki finished high school there before completing a six-year combined undergraduate-medical school program at the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad in 2001.
After fleeing Iraq in 2001, Dr. Zeki first lived in Jordan, then Sweden, and finally, Denmark, where from 2004-2006 she attended a hybrid surgery-internal medicine residency program at Holbaek Hospital. Shortly thereafter, she took a hiatus from clinical medicine to raise her first child and to prepare for the United States Medical Licensing Exams. From 2014-2017, Dr. Zeki completed a residency in internal medicine at Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Following her residency training, Dr. Zeki worked as a hospitalist with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians (JHCP) for six years, both at Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital and with patients undergoing cancer treatment at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. While with JHCP, she served as chairwoman of the Suburban Hospital Morbidity and Mortality Committee and taught medical students and physician assistants.
Desiring a more longitudinal relationship with her patients and to focus on keeping them out of the hospital, Dr. Zeki will leave JHCP in January 2024 to join North Bethesda Primary Care.
When not working, Dr. Zeki enjoys being with family and friends, traveling, gardening, and dabbling in interior design and home décor. From her time in Iraq, Sweden, and Denmark, Dr. Zeki speaks Arabic, some Swedish, and Danish. She has two children.
